The only thing hotter than the weather was the racing on the track.

THOMPSON CAPTURES POINTS LEAD WITH STRONG GOV CUP WEEKEND

Alex Thompson started on the pole for the IMCA Sport Compact feature. Thompson accumulated the most passing points to lead the field to the green flag. Thompson pulled away quickly as Krys Yost challenged Ken Sandberg for second. They briefly raced side by side until Yost took the position on lap two. However, it was too little too late for Yost as Alex Thompson led all 12 laps to dominate the feature and capture the Gov Cup Championship. Krys Yost finished runner-up ahead of points leader Ken Sandberg. Aiden Wagner, who picked up the victory on Night 1 of the North Dakota Governor’s Cup finished fourth while Paul Schuh finished fifth.

ENGELHARDT CLINCHES GOV CUP CHAMPIONSHIP WITH VICTORY

Jeremy Herr led the field to the green flag in the Hobby Stock feature. An early caution would regroup the field which allowed defending track champion, Jeremy Engelhardt to pass Herr on the restart. Engelhardt pulled away and cruised to victory. Jeremy Herr finished a distant second. Points leader, Bill Hultberg, finished third ahead of Dylan Sandberg. Derrick Appert came from deep in the field to finish fifth. The victory sealed up the Gov Cup championship for Engelhardt.

PAPKE AND KEENA DUKE IT OUT FOR LEGEND WIN

It was a hard fought battle for the lead in the INEX Legend feature between Nate Keena and Drew Papke. Papke got the early lead but Keena stuck right with him. On lap seven, Keena dove low under Papke to grab the lead. It looked like Keena would easily pick up the victory but a bobble out of turn four allowed Papke to slip by and retake the lead with six laps to go. Drew Papke the final few laps to pick up the victory. Nate Keena had to settle for second place ahead of Austin Wiest. Wishek’s Donavin Wiest finished fourth while Alex Kukowski rounded out the top five.

DOMAGALA SWEEPS GOV CUP WEEKEND

When the green flag waved in the WISSOTA Street Stock feature, it was an exciting battle for the lead between Hunter Domagala and Todd Carter. They raced side by side until Hunter found the momentum on the highside to pull away. As the laps wound down, points leader Zach Frederick picked off Shawn Volk for fourth, Kyle Zittleman for third and slowly started to reel in Carter. With four laps to go, Frederick passed Carter for second but ran out of time. Hunter Domagala swept the weekend to pick up the victory and the Gov Cup championship. Zach Frederick finished second ahead of Todd Carter. Shawn Volk finished fourth while it was a three car battle for fifth at the finish line. However, it would be Matt Dosch holding off Brian Swenson and Brandon Beeter for fifth.

KELLER DOMINATES FOR GOV CUP WIN

Jeremy Keller and Quentin Kinzley led the field to the green flag in the iMCA Modified feature. They briefly raced side by side until Keller pulled away. After having a terrible night 1 of the Gov Cup, Keller was making up for it on Night 2 as he wasted no time catching lapped traffic. A handful of mid-race cautions erased his large led over the field but on the restart, Keller pulled away once more. Kinzley started to fade through the field, losing positions to Marlyn Seidler, Mark Dahl and Shawn Strand. A late race caution regrouped the field on the final restart, Strand found some extra speed on the highline. He quickly passed Dahl for third and reeled in Seidler. However, when the checkered flag waved, it was Jeremy Keller crossing the finish line first. Marlyn Seidler’s second place finish locked up the Gov Cup championship over Shawn Strand who finished a close third. Mark Dahl finished fourth while Quentin Kinzley rounded out the top five.

HASTINGS COME OUT ON TOP ON NIGHT 2 AT GOV CUP

In the final feature of the evening, pole sitter Mark Dobmeier pulled away from the git go in the NOSA 410 Sprint Car feature. However, once Dobmeier started catching lapped traffic, it allowed second place Jade Hastings the opportunity to catch him. They raced hard in lapped traffic until a caution reset the field. On the restart, Dobmeier pulled away again but a few laps later, Hastings reeled him in. They raced side by side for several laps until Hastings cleared Dobmeier for the top spot. Hastings pulled away and cruised to victory. Mark Dobmeier’s second place finish wrapped up the Gov Cup championship. Brendan Mullen finished third ahead of Wade Nygaard and Nick Omdahl.
