Ivan started racing in 1976 at the age of 18 driving Street Stocks and Super Stocks for 12 years. He also worked to bring Modifieds to the North Dakota racing circuit. Sailer started Racer Performance Center with his wife Shelia in 1989, supplying fuel and parts at both the shop and race tracks for over 25 years.

In 1996 Ivan, his brother Dennis, and best friend Al Doffee started Winner Circle Promotions, running the Bismarck Speedway. He spent countless hours away from home to get it ready for Wednesday night racing.

Ivan brought the first three INEX Legend cars to North Dakota in 1998. Ivan ran the Bismarck Speedway for four years. During the 2000 season, Ivan and his crew ran both Bismarck Speedway and Dacotah Speedway. In 2001 he purchased ten INEX Legend Cars and started a rental program which gave many drivers their start.  Several current modified drivers got their start running Legends before they moved up.

He served on the Board of Directors for the Bismarck-Mandan Stock Car Association from 1984, 2005 to 2006 and President from 1982 to 1983 and 2007 to 2008. During his terms as President, Ivan brought in the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, Monster Trucks, Thunder Fours (IMCA Sport Compacts).

Ivan continues to race INEX Legend cars at the Dacotah Speedway and other tracks.

One of Ivan’s greatest contributions to racing in this area goes beyond the track. He has been responsible for bringing many new faces to the sport of auto racing. He understands the value of auto racing for the community and has worked hard to grow the sport.

Ivan Sailer has been a foundation builder of the Modern Racing Era for our area.
