Dacotah Speedway Honors Mothers at the Races
Mothers of all ages were treated to a surprise Friday, May 12th as they were presented a free carnation from presenting sponsor, Hirsch Florist and Gifts. It was a beautiful night for racing as fans filled the grandstands for the speedway’s second night of racing.

Berg Dominates IMCA Sport Compact Feature

The father-son duo of Alex and Stan Thompson started on the front row of the IMCA Sport Compact feature. As the green flag waved, Jason Berg made it a three car battle for the lead. Berg split the two drivers and took the lead on lap two, bringing Chase Schlafmann with him. Stan Thompson over drove turn four and spun out while running third. Berg pulled away on there start before a caution with four to go erased his lead once again. Rookie Ken Sandberg slipped by Schlafmann on the restart but Schlafmann rallied back to retake second with three laps to go. Jason Berg cruised to victory to win his second feature, back-to-back, at Dacotah Speedway. Chase Schlafmann finished second ahead of Ken Sandberg. Stan Thompson came back to finish fourth while pole sitter Alex Thompson finished fifth.

Engelhardt Holds Off McCleary for Hobby Stock Win

John Gartner Jr and young Dylan Sandberg battled for the lead in the Hobby Stock feature. They raced side by side until Napoleon’s Keith McCleary made it a three-wide battle. Sandberg grabbed the lead while McCleary now had his hands full with Curt Michaelsohn of Wishek and Jeremy Engelhardt of Lincoln. Caution regrouped the field when Michaelsohn’s car suddenly slowed on the race track. On the restart, Gartner Jr and Engelhardt were all over Sandberg’s rear bumper. Engelhardt passed Gartner Jr with nine laps to go,bringing McCleary with him. Sandberg over drove turn four, handing the lead over to Engelhardt and McCleary. As they raced side by side for the lead,McCleary was strong on the low line but Engelhardt was slightly faster on the high side. With two laps to go, Engelhardt cleared McCleary for the lead.Jeremy Engelhardt was able to hold off Keith McCleary to win the feature victory. Curt Michaelsohn came back to finish third ahead of John Gartner Jr and Brandon Anderson.

Wiest Wins INEX Legend Thriller at Dacotah Speedway

The veteran, Ivan Sailer, quickly grabbed the lead in the INEX Legends feature. Ivan led the first lap before Tom Wagner and Troy Hoff challenged for the lead. They briefly raced three wide before Hoff slipped by on the low line to take the lead on lap three. The race was now for second as Sailer, Wagner and Donavin Wiest raced three wide. Using the low line around the track, Wiest grabbed second and quickly reeled in the leader, Hoff. As the laps wound down, Hoff and Wiest started closing in on the slow car of Travis Martin. With two laps to go, Hoff and Wiest split the slow car but it hurt Hoff’s momentum off turn two giving Wiest the speed to power by down the backstretch. As the white flag waved, Hoff gave it one last shot at Wiest. Going into turn three, Hoff threw his car in hard but Donavin Wiest held on to narrowly win over Troy Hoff and Drew Papke at the Open Road Honda finish line. Tom Wagner finished fourth and Ivan Sailer rounded out the top five.

Michaelsohn Back-to-Back Feature Winner in Mandan

Tanner Dosch started on the pole for the WISSOTA Street Stock feature. When the green flag waved, it was a three car battle for the lead between Dosch, Matt Brendel and John Feist. Brendel shuffled into the lead as Shawn Volk slipped into second place. Volk, notorious for racing around the guardrail, quickly caught Brendel and challenged for the lead. They raced side by side until Matt Dosch made it a three car battle for first. Volk grabbed the lead before a caution on lap six. On the restart, Volk started to pull away as Chris Michaelsohn quickly caught Dosch for second. A caution with eight laps to go was the last thing Volk wanted to see. It allowed Michaelsohn to restart on the outside and challenge for the lead on the restart. The two drivers raced side by side as the laps started to wind down. Volk was strong in turns three and four but Michaelsohn was stronger in turns one and two. As they raced for the win, Richardton’s Zach Frederick lurked in third. As they came to the white flag, Frederick and Royce Jawaski made contact while racing for third, resulting with Frederick spun in turn four. Officials credited third place to Zach Frederick. Linton’s John Weber, who rolled his car the week before, finished fourth ahead of Allen Frederick. As the leaders raced to the finish line, Chris Michaelsohn edged Shawn Volk for the feature win, his second win of the year at Dacotah Speedway.

Keller Picks Up Feature Victory at Dacotah Speedway

Bismarck’s Brent Schlafmann grabbed the lead from pole sitter Chad Hausauer in the IMCA Modified feature. Schlafmann started to pull away quickly but a caution on lap six regrouped the field. On the restart,Schlafmann over drove turn two, allowing Spencer Wilson and Jeremy Keller to slip by. Wilson and Keller battled for the lead as Schlafmann had his hands full with a strong Mark Dahl and Travis Olheiser. Keller was all over Wilson’s bumper and a slight bobble off turn two allowed Keller to pull alongside of Wilson down the backstretch. They raced side by side with six laps to go as Olheiser tried to hold off Dahl and Schlafmann for third. The high side prevailed for Keller as he completed the pass on Wilson with four laps to go. Jeremy Keller went on to win the feature over Spencer Wilson. Mark Dahl made a late race pass to finish third over Travis Olheiser while Brent Schlafmann finished fifth.
