Allan Johnson of Johnson's Wrecking has been going to stock car races almost the entire length they have been in existence in the Bismarck-Mandan area. He first became a fan at the old Dakota Speedway, just east of Bismarck on old Highway 10. He fondly remembers other HOF drivers/nominees like “Leadfoot” Lefty Herman, “Curley” Werner, Marlyn “Hawk” Haakenson, and Bob Bender race around the old ¼ mile track until in closed for good in the late 1960’s.

When the new Central States Raceway was built Allan got right back to being a frequent fan as he loved the new generation of drivers like Marv Gillig, Donny “Big Block” Bender, and a fellow salvage yard owner Leroy Walker. Many of the drivers of that era were also good customers because parts from Johnson’s Wrecking were often times found on their cars. It was a natural that Johnson started sponsoring many of these cars when he took over the salvage business in Mandan from his father—“Pops” Johnson. Parts from Johnson’s Wrecking kept these drivers going from week to week.

When the new Dacotah Speedway was built in Allan’s home town of Mandan, Johnson also started supporting the track itself with advertising and help in keeping the less then new track maintenance vehicles running at the track every Friday night. Johnson always seemed to have, or know where to find, inexpensive parts that help keep the track going every night. However, now it was time for another Johnson—Allan’s son Brian, who also worked at Johnson’s Wrecking—to help out as he became a fan as well going to the races with his father.

Allan Johnson and Johnson's Wrecking are not only life-long racing fans, they are sponsors and advertisers at the track. No other business in this area has sponsored so many cars and helped so many drivers for as many decades as Johnson's Wrecking and Allan Johnson. His nomination will be in the Pioneer Category for the Bismarck-Mandan Racing Hall of Fame.
