Terry Oswald started racing in 1974, right after he got out of the service like so many young men did at
that time. Like his brother Larry, he started racing a Ford early in his career. Another brother, Clifford,
built a Chevy, and both brothers made the switch to the bow tie brand that was becoming mainstream
for their lower cost parts and cars that came right out of the alley or from the local junkyard. Whatever
brand the Oswald’s raced one thing was for certain, they all helped each other out for their entire
racing careers. Despite differences, the brothers were all mechanics by trade and their cars were torn
apart every week to make sure they did not break down at the race track. Fellow competitors all knew
they would not beat an Oswald brother due to a mechanical failure, they had to be beat at the track,
and that was yet another tall order.

Terry’s best year was in 1985 when he was the season champ in the Street class at the old Bismarck
Speedway that was run by another HoF nominee-- Darrell Farland. Wanting to go out on top, he retired
as a driver, but he decided to give back to the sport as a pit steward and then as a flagman with Allan
Doffee. Oswald then went on to serve as a Bismarck-Mandan Stock Car Association Board member. His
years as a driver, then giving back as an official, and finally as a board member, shows by action his love
and service to the sport.

Terry Oswald had a long list of drivers who he felt were tough competitors. He listed Darrell Bauer, Lynn
Christianson, Darrell Erickson, and John Gartner as those he respected and raced him hard.

Ever the family man, Oswald currently is a part of that same family with Oswald Brothers Repair in
Bismarck. He has been nominated for the Legacy Era due to his driving accomplishments, and
outstanding service as an official and board member.
