Points leader John Gartner Jr and Brent Vetter quickly passed Roehrich for second which led to a three car battle for the lead. Davenport, Gartner and Vetter raced three wide before Gartner powered into the lead with six laps to go. Jawaski and Frederick raced side by side for the lead while Matt Dosch and Shawn Volk battled for third. As Volk cleared Dosch for third, the leaders continued to battle for the lead. They flip flopped positions as they raced door to door for the top spot. Just as the leaders started to catch lapped traffic, a caution regrouped the field. On the restart, Volk challenged Jawaski for second. As they raced hard for second, it allowed Geoff Hellman to fly by them on the high side of the track. Keller passed Tomlinson but Tomlinson retook second the following lap. A third caution regrouped the field with 12 laps to go.
