MARRIOTT DOMINATES DACOTAH SPEEDWAY
The 30th Annual Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Modified Tour wrapped up in Mandan at Dacotah Speedway on Thursday, July 11th. Every point and every position mattered as Tom Berry Jr had a slim lead over second place Ricky Thornton Jr. When the green flag waved, Hunter Marriott burst out of a cannon and pulled away from the field. Not even lapped traffic could slow him down as he easily went on to win the feature race at Dacotah Speedway. Tom Berry’s fifth place finish sealed the deal on his very first Dakota Classic Modified Tour championship.
Points leader Ricky Thornton Jr quickly passed pole sitter AJ Zimmerman in the IMCA Stock Car feature. With only a few laps to go, Thornton Jr had his hands full with a strong Dalton Flory. As the checkered flag waved, Dalton Flory just narrowly edged Ricky Thornton Jr at the line to win the feature. Thornton Jr’s second place finish was enough to clinch his first IMCA Stock Car championship.
