Dacotah Speedway Recap - June 17

The only thing hotter than the weather was the racing on the track on Friday, June 17th. Fans packed the stands as cars packed the pit area for a great night of racing at Dacotah Speedway.

SANDBERG GOES BACK TO BACK IN MANDAN

Alex Thompson grabbed the lead in the IMCA Sport Compact feature. Alex led the pack as they raced four wide for second between Nick Hoffman, Paul Schuh, Stan Thompson and Ken Sandberg. Alex got too high off corner four allowing Ken Sandberg to drive low underneath and take the lead. As Sandberg pulled away, Stan Thompson got too high off corner four while Schuh and Hoffman battled for second. Schuh, running the highline, drove too high off corner two, falling to fifth. Sandberg continued to distance himself from the field as the Thompsons reeled in second place Hoffman. When the checkered flag waved, Nick Hoffman held off Stan and Alex Thompson for second. Paul Schuh finished fifth while Ken Sandberg picked up his third victory of the season.

ENGELHARDT CRUISES TO VICTORY LANE

Bismarck‚Äôs Chris Rangeloff led the field to the green flag in the Hobby Stock feature. Outside pole sitter, Jeremy Engelhardt, wasted no time going to the front. As Engelhardt and Bill Hultburg pulled away from the field, it was an exciting three car battle for Terry Davenport, Josh Roehrich and Ryker Vetter for third. A handful of mid-race cautions regrouped the field and on the final restart, Engelhardt pulled away once more. Jeremy Engelhardt, who missed the previous week, came back to win the feature.  Bill Hultberg, who finished second, lost a tire after the checkered flag. Josh Roehrich finished third while Derrick Appert made a late pass to finish fourth ahead of John Gartner Jr.

HIGH LINE IS THE FAST LINE FOR MARTIN

In the INEX Legends feature, it was a thrilling battle for the lead between Nate Keena and Austin Wiest the moment the green flag waved. As they raced hard for the lead, it allowed Preston Martin the opportunity to reel in the leaders. A mid-race caution reset the field and on the restart with seven laps to go, Martin used the highline around Dacotah Speedway to pass Keena for the lead. Martin pulled away as Keena and Austin Wiest raced hard for second. It allowed Donavin Wiest to make it a three car battle. However, Preston Martin made it back to back victories in Mandan. Nate Keena held on to finish second over Donavin Wiest and Austin Wiest. Dayton Olheiser, who is only 14 years old, rounded out the top five.

DOMAGALA FINALLY FINDS GOOD LUCK AND VICTORY LANE

Jason Berg and Hunter Domagala battled for the lead in the WISSOTA Street Stock feature. They raced side by side for several laps until Berg had a mechanical failure on lap six. Domagala claimed the top spot and pulled away. However, as the laps wound down, second place Matt Dosch and Zach Frederick stayed on pace with the leader. Fourth place Chris Welk Jr had his hands full with Tracy Domagala and Kasey Ussatis. When the checkered flag waved, Kasey Ussatis passed Tracy Domagala for fifth place but fell short to Chris Welk Jr. Zach Frederick finished behind Matt Dosch as Hunter Domagala finished first to claim his first victory of the season.

SEIDLER DOMINATES AT DACOTAH SPEEDWAY

Pole sitter Mark Dahl lead early in the IMCA Modified feature. Dahl was fast from the start but Marlyn Seidler, who started sixth, reeled in the Bismarck driver. As they raced door to door, Dahl blew it off the top of corner three, allowing Seidler to slip by. Seidler pulled away quickly as Shawn Strand closed in on Dahl. They battled hard for second most of the race but with eight laps to go, in the middle of lapped traffic, Strand passed Dahl for second. Drew Christianson, who ran top four most of the night, blew it off the top of the track allowing Jeremy Keller and Spencer Wilson to slip by. However, crossing the finish line first was Marlyn Seidler. Shawn Strand finished second ahead of Mark Dahl. Points leader Jeremy Keller held off Spencer Wilson for fourth.
